I am currently choosing to keep the thumbs cache enabled as we have a lot of image files in our business. Problem is more annoying as I had to explain an issue either way to my end users. There was and is a purpose for the thumbs.db file. That process can take anywhere for seconds to minutes and can be very annoying. That contain images (assuming they are viewing them in an icon view). If you disable the thumbnail cache files it solves one problem but creates another as Windows clients have to generate thumbnail images in real time EVERY time they view folders So just FYI, there appears to be no perfect solution yet that I am aware of. Images to load on folders that contained either a lot of image files or folders that contained very large image files (like TIFFs). I thought I was in the clear after that, but then users started to complain that it took forever for thumbnail
I implemented the domain wide GPO in the past to disable the generation of thumbnailĬache files which worked fine to resolve the issue of not being able to delete or rename folders because the thumbs.db file is being used. I have been struggling with this issue for years now in a business domain environment and it continues to this day, so I thought I would share my experience with it.
